We’ll keep on developing this sweet turbine and I’ll, of course, let you all know how it turns out.

Nice. One of these days, I think you’re just going to disappear from the grid, altogether.

This stuff is fascinating. I’m on the edge of my seat. How many watts are you planning on generating per CR Especial? When are you guys going down to costa rica?

We’re going to head down to Costa Rica the 4th week of July to install these guys so hopefully the design is finalized by then. If you’re interested in coming down with us the plane tickets are really cheap right now. We could use a hand or two :-)

We need to generate about 2000 kwH / month to get the whole center off the grid and the trubines are rated at 1000 watts, but in the average wind conditions it’s probably more like 300-500 watts. We’ll probably start with 5 turbines, each being ~10 feet tall and add more over time. (5*16hours(of wind per day)*30days*300 watts = 720 kwh/month

We wont get it fully off the grid but we will take a serious dent out of it and provide nice backup power for their computer equipment.

That sounds like so much fun. I wish I could go, we have a camping trip planned that week though. I’ll keep watching for more design updates, it’s all really interesting.
